Sri lankan Beetroot curry



Ingredients :
  • 1 medium size Beetroot, peeled and slice
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Raw curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seed
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seed
  • 1/2 medium onion, Thinly slice
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 cup thick Coconut milk, mix with little water
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste
How to make it :
  1. Peeled the skin of beetroot then wash, slice into small pieces
  2. Heat oil in the pan, then add mustard seed, fenugreek seed, onion, curry leaves. stir -fry until fragrant and onions are golden brown.
  3. Add beetroot, raw curry powder and chili powder. Stir well, pour 1/2 cup of water and cover it. Cook about 10 minutes.
  4. Add thick coconut milk and salt to taste. 
  5. Serve with hot rice.

Ketimus a.k.a Lemet

I got this recipe from my assistant at home. In her place central Java, Javanese people called it as Lemet and some people called it as ketimus, one of Indonesian traditional snack. It's sweet. Ingredients are easy to find. You should be able to find this in traditional market, supermarket or even your back yard!

Ingredients :
1 kg cassava, shredded
250 gr shredded coconut
250 gr Brown sugar
2 tsp pandan paste (optional)
Banana leaves for wraping

Direction :

  1. In large bowl, mix well all ingredients until you get green color.
  2. Take one sheet of banana leaf, fill with 1 tablespoon of cassava mixture.
  3. And then folded and Wrap them like picture above.
  4. Steam all the wrapped lemet together in hot steam for about 30-40 minutes.
  5. Let it cool before serve.

Sayur Lodeh


When I went to market that day, I saw some people sell plain rice cake And thought it would be nice served with sayur lodeh. I am glad that there are people who sell plain rice cake because to make it takes many hours to boil. I may not be able to make it at home because I use an electric stove.

Sayur lodeh is a dish consist of several vegetables plus tempeh (fermented soybean) and you also can put boiled eggs into it. This vegetable also delicious served with hot rice and can be served at feast of Eid Mubarak / Idul Fitri. I want to eat more and more..

I made small quantity, about 4 portions.
Ingredients :
Long Green beans, cut into 2cm length
Pear squash, cut into 2 cm length
Cabbage, Cut into small pieces
Tempe / fermented soyabean, cut into 2 cm length
1 1/2 cup Coconut milk
4 cup water
3 tbsp oil
1 tsp sugar (optional)
Salt to taste



Spices paste :
6 Red chilies
Grind all ingredients above into a paste
8 Small Shallots
3 Garlic
2 Candle nuts
2 cm Ginger
1/2 tsp Coriander
1 Lemon grass, crushed
1 Bay leaf
2 Lime leaves
Half Tomato
Galangal, the size of a thumb, crushed








Preparations :
Chili, shallot, garlic, candle nut, ginger, coriander, tomato and salt grinded into paste. I use  mortar and pestle. To more quickly you can use a food processor.

In the pan, heat 3 tablespoon of oil then sauteed mix paste, lemongrass, galangal, bay leaf and lime leaves  until fragrant.

Add coconut milk and water. Stir well and bring to boil.

Add long green beans, pearl squash, cabbage and tempe. Cook until vegetables are softened.

Season with salt and sugar.

Serve with hot rice or rice cake. Top with boiled egg and sprinkle with fried shallot.

Stir-fried bean sprouts and salted fish



One of my favorite vegetables. Serve hot with hot rice.Perfect side dish for lunch.
Ingredients :
1 bowl of bean sprout
1 garlic, punch and chopped
2 shallot, thinly slice
2 chilies, thinly slice
100 gr salted fish
Bombay, thinly slice
Tomato,   thinly slice
Cayenne, thinly slice (optinal, to get more spicy)
Salt to taste



  1. Heat oil in the pan, sauteed shallot, bombay.chilies, and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add salty fish , fry for 1-2 minutes
  3. Add bean sprout and salt, stir well
  4. Stir fry about 3-4 minutes
  5. Bean sprouts ready to serve
  6. Enjoy

Fried bitter ground salad (karavila salad)




Hi how are you everyone? it's been a while I didn't write a post.. Now I come back and bring something fresh for you guys. Do you know bitter ground? have you tried before? It is a tropical and sub tropical vine of the family cucurbitaceae, widely grown in Asia, Africa and Caribbean for its edible fruit, which is among the most bitter of all fruits. Bitter ground contains vitamin C, carotene, and calium. Can lower blood sugar levels, dysentery, fevers, against cancer cell and many more benefits. This fruit should not consume excessive, especially for pregnant women. The experiment conducted, giving bitter ground juice can cause miscarriage.

In indonesia we called pare or paria. The most popular way is sauteed. I like to try something different this time. I get sri lankan recipe they called karavila sambol. Sri lankan people serve karavila sambol with rice and curry dishes.

bakwan udang / prawn and vegetables fritter


INGREDIENTS :            
15 small prawn
250 gr All purpose flour
100 gr rice flour
1 carrot, thinly slices
1/4 cabbage, thinly slices
1 stalk spring onion, thinly slices
1 stalk celery, thinly slices
1 egg
water
oil for frying

SEASONING :
3 shallot
3 garlic
1/2 tsp coriander
1/2 tsp pepper
2 tsp salt
* Mix all seasoning and then make paste with mortar and pestle / food processor.

HOW TO MAKE :
In large bowl, mix well egg and seasoning paste.
Add carrot, cabbage, spring onion, celery,flour and water. Add water little by little. Batter should not too thick.
Heat the oil, take 2 tablespoon of batter and put 1 prawn on top. Deep fry until golden brown.
Serve with chili or chili sauce.

Ala kiri hodi (potato curry)


Ala kiri hodi or srilankan white potato curry is creamy curry and not spicy. As side dish for any kind of rice, bread also string hoppers. So delicious....

Ingredients :
2 large potatoes cut into big cube
1 medium onion, chopped
2 clove of garlic, minced
1 green chili, sliced
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
curry leaves
cinnamon stick
salt to taste
1 cup of coconut milk
some water to boil potatoes

How to make it :
Put potatoes, onion, garlic, green chili, turmeric powder, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon stick, curry leaves and some water to pan and bring to a boil.
When the potatoes become tender, add coconut milk and boil for 2 minutes.
Add salt to taste.
Turn off the heat and top of that add 1 tablespoon lime juice.

Seeni sambol


A tasty sri lankan side dish for bread and hopper. Taste is spicy n sweet caramelized onion. you must try : )
Ingredients :
2 Big onion ( bombay )
1 cinnamon
2 table spoon maldive fish
1 table spoon chili flakes
1 table spoon chili powder
1 table spoon sugar
salt to taste
tamarind
curry leaves
2 - 3 tbsp oil for fry

How to make :
Onion thinly sliced
In small bowl mix tamarind with little bit water, make thick paste and keep a side.
Heat the oil on the pan, saute onion, curry leaves and cinnamon until golden brown.
Add tamarind paste, maldive fish, salt, chili powder, dry chili flakes and sugar. Mix it well.
You will get nice dark brown color. Turn off the heat when it is mix perfectly..
Serve with bread or hopper..

Misro


Hi everyone.. I made this snack today.. With inexpensive stuffs create a yummy snack.. 1kg cassava only Rp 3000,-  ( less than $1 )  !! Taste sweet in it because filled with palm sugar. Good for tea time. Very easy to make it.. hope you enjoy it.. do you have any comment?

Ingredients :
1 kg shredded cassava
100 gram shredded coconut
150 gram shredded pal sugar
1 tsp salt
Oil for frying

How to make :
In large bowl put shredded cassava, shredded coconut and salt. mix well together.
Take 2 tablespoon of batter and then make rounds. Filled in the middle with 1 tsp of shredded palm sugar.
Then formed into rounds. Make sure palm sugar covered properly.
Deep fry until golden brown.

Cuko ( Dressing for pempek )

Cuko is dressing for pempek. Spicy sour taste. To get more color black should use palm sugar. It will be much better if made ​​one day in advance and stored in refrigerator. To serve this, just pour to pempek.

Ingredients :
250 gram Brown sugar / palm sugar
100 gram tamarind
1tsp dried shrimp powder (optional)
3 garlic, diced
6 red chili / cayenne pepper, grind
3 tbsp vinegar
1 liter water
salt

How to make :
Boiled water with brown sugar and tamarind. Let it boil.
Add garlic, dried shrimp, chili and salt. Mix well, Let it boil for 15 minute.
Turn off the heat and then Add vinegar.
Strain and transfer to a bowl or clean container .

Wonton soup


Ingredients for wonton :
250 gram all purpose flour
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoon hot water

Ingredients for filling :
200 gram prawn, minced
1 egg
2 garlic
1 cm ginger
1 tsp white pepper
1 tsp sesame oil
1 onion stalk, finely slice
salt to taste

Ingredients for soup :
1 liter chicken stock
1 tbsp soya sauce
1 tsp white pepper
1 stalk spring onion
100 gram bokcoy (optional)
Salt to taste

How to make :
In large bowl, mix all purpose flour with salt, make circle in center then crack egg and place in the circle. Mix well and add hot water little by little until the dough is not sticky in the hand.
Take a little dough and the roll it into square with a thickness of 3 mm. Occasional sprinkle with corn flour. Do until the dough finish. set a side and sprinkle with corn flour. Corn flour to make wonton skin doesn't stick back.

In medium bowl, Mix well all ingredients for filling. Take 1 wonton skin and place 1/2 (half) tablespoon of filling in the center. Then folded into a triangle shape. Bring the left and right corners together over the filling and overlap the tips. Moisten them with water and press them together.

Boiled chicken stock to a boil. Add white pepper, soya sauce, salt and bokcoy. Drop the wonton in and Let them simmer for 5 minutes or until they float to the top.

Garnish the soup with sliced spring onion before serving.

Calamari


INGREDIENTS :
250 gram calamari / squid slice into rings
all purpose flour
1 teaspoon oregano (optional )
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 egg yolk
100 ml soda water (chilled )
few ice cube
salt to taste
oil for frying

HOW TO MAKE :
In large bowl mix well calamari with all purpose flour, oregano, ground black pepper, chili powder, and salt.
In other bowl, beat egg and add the ice cubes. Pour soda water then beat again.
Heat the oil, put calamari into the egg and carefully add calamari to the oil and fry until crisp and floating then drain.
place the fried calamari with lemon wedges on plate.

Spinach soup with quail eggs and carrots

Spinach is one of green vegetables contains of vitamins and antioxidants. Why popeye eat spinach? because it high iron which is make body strong. This soup good for toddler or people who are recovering from illness. Spinach should be served immediately after being cooked. Boil the spinach just 3 minutes because if too long  the mineral is readily soluble in water. Spinach is not heated or consumed more than 5 hours. Because spinach also contain nitrates (NO3). When oxidized by air, it will be NO2 (nitrite). Nitrite is a compound that is colorless, odorless, and is toxic to the human body. Let's try the recipe...

Ingredients :
300 gram spinach
700 ml water
1 garlic, slice
3 shallots, slice
10 quail eggs, boiled
1 carrot, cut to small cube
1 tomato, slice
3 bay leaf (optional )
10 small chili (optional )
1 tsp white sugar
chicken powder (optional)
salt to taste

How to make :
boiled water to the boil. Add bay leaf, slice garlic, shallots, chicken powder, small chili and carrots. Let the carrots until tender. After that put quail eggs, spinach and tomatoes. Add sugar and salt to taste. turn off the heat after 3 minutes. ready to served.

Pempek Palembang ( fish cake )



Pempek is a typical food of Southern Sumatra (Palembang) with basic ingredients of spanish mackerel and sago flour. For the long shape called pempek lenjer and round shape filling with egg called pempek kapal selam. This food not only popular in Palembang but also around Indonesia. This time, I made basic with eggs and sago flour (pempek DOS). Although without fish but taste was still delicious. Cuko and cucumber as complement. I will share pempek and cuko recipe. Hope you guys enjoy and try this recipe. Do you have any comment?

PEMPEK RECIPE 
Ingredients:
200 ml water
4 garlic, grated
200 gram all purpose flour
300 gram sago flour
2 eggs

How to make :
- Boiled water and salt to boiling.     Pour all purpose flour little by little. Stir until blended and thick. Turn off the heat, set a side and then put to refrigerator and let stand for 30 minutes.

- after 30 minutes remove the dough from the refrigerator and then put eggs into the dough and mix well.

- Add sago flour little bit little until the dough is not sticky.

- Form it oval and make hole in middle by point finger. Put one broke raw egg. To make it easy, broke egg into bowl then take yolk with spoon, put to hole in the middle pempek then put egg white. Cover the hole with press slowly on top of the dough.

- For pempek lenjer, form it long shape.

- Boiled water to a boil, put pempek, wait for it to float and then immediately remove and set aside.

- When you want to serve, deep fry pempek until golden brown, set aside and then cut into pieces.

- Place on a plate with noodle, cucumber and cuko.

My simple fresh strawberry juice recipe :
5 pieces strawberry fruit
2 tbsp white sugar
4 pieces ice cube
200 cc water
* Combine all ingredients into blender.. blend until smooth.. pour into glass and enjoyyyy........!

Strawberry jelly


I bought 2 pack of strawberries.. At first, I thought to just for make juice But I also have jelly powder with strawberry flavor and It would be nice put strawberries fruit as topping. Then I think to make it look different. this is it ! heart shape inspire from valentine's day. And I used ice cube mold to make jelly cube.
Ingredients :
1 pack @ 15 gram jelly powder with strawberry flavor
200 ml white sugar (according to taste)
700 ml water
strawberry fruit, cut into heart shapes (use cutter / knife )
Ice cube mold

How to make :
* Mix well jelly powder with sugar.
* Slowly pour 700 ml of water into the mixture, stir well until dissolved and boil. keep stir until boiled      then turn off the heat.
* Put strawberry into ice cube mold then pour the solution into ice cube mold / jelly mold / small bowl.
* Place the jelly into the fridge and chill for 2-4 hours.
* Remove from the mold and serve.

HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY


Happy Valentine's day everyone! I would like to share my love cake recipe... I tried recipe from NCC book cake and cookies anti gagal. I just decorate with strawberry jam and sprinkle with colorful chocolate rice. The base cake name is bolu kukus mambo (Steam rainbow cake). Check out the recipe... do you have any comment?
Ingredients :
6 eggs
2 yolks
250 gram white sugar powder
175 ml thick coconut milk (cooked)
200 gram all purpose flour
1 tsp cake emulsifier
1 tsp strawberry paste
half tsp vanilla powder
half tsp salt

How to make :
prepare round baking pan diameter 18cm, height 7 cm or square baking pan  size 22 x 22 x8 cm.
polish with butter all inside baking pan and then sprinkle all inside with all purpose flour.
preheat the steamer. Let it steamy.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, yolk, sugar, cake emulsifier, vanilla powder and salt. beat until fluffy and thick. Add all purpose flour (sifted) mix well. Pour coconut milk little by little.
Spread batter into 4 bowls. And then add strawberry paste into 2 bowls.
Pour 1 bowl strawberry batter into baking pan. steamed for 10 minutes. And then pour 1 bowl white batter, steamed for 10 minutes. And so on until the last batter. Steam again for 20 minutes.
turn off the heat. let it cool. decorate with strawberry jam and colorful rice chocolate..
enjoy.....

Tips :
* Use eggs at normal temperature
* beat eggs until fluffy without stopping ( use mixer on medium speed )
* don't let steam / water fall into batter (wrap cover with napkin)

Stuffed pancake roll / Dadar gulung



Dadar gulung is traditional sweet snack from Indonesia.. Pancake roll filled with sweetened shredded coconut. Green color comes from pandan paste. This snack suitable to accompany a cup of tea. Can be tried for your weekend. Do you have any comment about this snack?

Ingredients ( Pancake ):
2 eggs
250 gram all purpose flour
500 ml coconut milk
1/2 tsp salt
Pandan paste
Oil for greasing

Ingredients ( Filling ):
250 gram shredded coconut
150 gram brow sugar, minced / thinly sliced
2 pandan leaves ( optional )
100 ml water

How to make it :
Pancake : Put flour into large bowl, add eggs and salt. Mixed it and pour coconut milk little by little until coconut milk finish. Stir until batter is liquid and soft. Add pandan paste, stir well.
Turn on the heat, prepared non sticky pan, grease with oil. Pouring +/- 2 tbsp batter. Make a thin pancake.
Remove and set a side.

Filling : Put all filling ingredients into a pot / pan. Cook over low heat. Stir once a while until all mixed together and sticky. Turn off the heat when it thickens.

Grab a piece of pancake, put 1 tbsp of filling and  folding like envelope then roll it. Ready to eat.

Sambal colo colo


Hhmmm grill fish with sambal colo-colo is the perfect couple. Tasty fish mixed with sweet from sweet black soybeans sauce and spicy from hot small chili. And also shallots, tomato and lime gives freshness.
For who like spicy, I dare you to try this one....

Ingredients:
10 chili padi / cayenne pepper
5 red bird eye chili
6 shallots
1 big tomato
50 ml sweet black soybeans sauce
3 tbsp lime juice

* Sliced chilies and shallot ( 1/2 cm thick ). diced tomato (1/2 - 1 cm thick ). Place in small bowl. Add soybeans sauce and lime juice. mix well..
* Serve as complement to grilled fish.

Sweet spicy grilled pomfret fish




Pomfret fish known as ikan bawal ( Indonesia ). One of the delicious fish which is suitable for grill. I marinated for one hour with sweet and spicy sauce. Make sure the fish is fresh, by checking the gill, if the gill is red it's mean fish is fresh. fresh fish does not smell. Fresh blood will come out when you cut it. More fresh more tasty.....

Macaroni schotel




Ingredients:
200 gram macaroni elbow
250 cc fresh milk / chicken stock
3 eggs, beaten
2 garlic, minced
1 big onion / bombay, finely chopped
3 tbsp wheat flour
1 tsp nutmeg powder
1 tsp white pepper powder
   grated cheddar cheese
   salt to taste
Vegetables :
1 carrot, diced
1 stalk spring onion, thinly sliced
1 stalk celery, thinly sliced

How to make :
  1. Boiled macaroni with 1 tablespoon oil and 1 teaspoon salt until al dente ( half cooked ). Strain and set a side.
  2. Sauteed bombay and garlic until fragrant. add carrot, spring onion, celery, white pepper, nugmet and salt. pour fresh milk. stir and boiled until carrot bit tender.
  3. Add 3 tbsp wheat flour.. stir well.. turn off the heat then add beaten eggs, macaroni and grated cheddar cheese.. mix well.
  4. prepared square baking pan or pyrex spread with butter. pour macaroni mixture into baking pan. sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese on top..
  5. Preheat the open to 180C.. bake for 40 minutes..

Recycle shirt into apron

I have long wanted to buy an apron, but there's always a reason cancel buy it. When I was in supermarket I forgot to buy it or when I remember it's not available. Then one day suddenly idea came out from my mind. I have a white shirt that was not used anymore because the collar was torn. I thought make an apron such a good idea. I grab scissors, ruler, pencil, needle and thread. Began to cut into the back of the line follows the existing then the line of buttons, wrist and pocket. Now wrist part become collar, the line studs / buttons become accessories at the center, the line of buttonholes ( cut into 2 pieces ) become bond on the right and left side and pocket on the left chest. How is it now......???? check it out....

I get gift pack Ceylon tea. Which is come from Sri Lanka. Why the name is Ceylon? let me tell you the history, Ceylon was the name given to Sri Lanka during The British colony. In 1972 the official name was change to Republic of Sri Lanka and In 1978 it was change to the "Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.  The name derives from the Sanskrit, Sri (Venerable) and Lanka (island).The country is the world's fourth largest producer of tea (wikipedia).

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is spice obtained from the inner bark , type of spice that is very flavorful, sweet and spicy.  Widely used in various cuisines (Asian, Indian, European, Middle East, etc). When mixed in food or drinks, will add fresh and delicious taste. Use the appropriate dose. Proportions For soup or stock just put cinnamon stick about 5cm to one liter of water. For breads or cakes, simply add at least a teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Typically, taste and flavor of cinnamon powder stronger than cinnamon stick.Cinnamon also traditionally used as a supplement to various diseases, with mixed honey, such a treatment for arthritis, skin, heart, and abdominal bloating.
Sri lankan cinnamon (up)  using only thin inner bark, has a finer, less dense and more crumbly texture (wikipedia). 

Here some recipes to use of cinnamon as herbal medicine.

  1. Arthritis : half teaspoon cinnamon powder mix with one tablespoon of honey. Taken before breakfast. drink every day for a month. Will decrease the pain of arthritis.
  2. Stomach ache : dissolve one half teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup of warm water. Close the cup and let the stand for 15 minutes, then drink the tea as usual. may also to treat diarrhea.
  3. Cough : for cough associated with colds, cook a small pot of water until boiling and then insert a cinnamon stick to boiling. After two minutes remove the cinnamon stick from the water and use boiling water to brew herbal tea such as green tea. Drink twice a day.
  4. headache and migrain : mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder with one teaspoon of water. Apply on brow and forehead.
  5. Abdominal fullness : a Little cinnamon powder mix with two teaspoon of honey. drink the mixture before meals. Mixture that will relieve acid in stomach and digestion.
  6. Toothache : Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder with five teaspoons of honey in small bowl. Stir thoroughly. Spread a little mixture directly to the tooth using cotton buds.
You should provide cinnamon stick or cinnamon powder at home and also don't forget the honey.

Soto Daging

Soto is a kind soup with herbs spices typical of Indonesia. Some of the famous soto are Soto Ayam, Soto Aceh, Soto Bandung, Soto Babat, Soto Betawi, Soto Daging, Soto Kudus, Soto Lamongan, Soto Madura. Because rain season, I decided to make Soto Daging today. Soto is perfect serve in the winter. Serve hot, put squash lime, sprinkle with slice fried shallot and add sambal cabe rawit. Hhmmmm so delicious...











Ingredients :
250 gram top side beef, cut into cube
250 gram potato, cut into small cube, fry
100 gram cabbage, thinly sliced, soak with hot water then strain
100 gram vermicelli, soak with hot water then strain
1 tomato, diced
1 lemon grass, punch
3 lime leaves

Spices to grind :
4 shallots
2 garlics
2 cm ginger
2 cm tumeric / half spoon tumeric powder
1 tsp salt
half spoon white pepper
combine all ingredients together, grind with mortar and pestle, or use food processor.

Compliments :
1 stalk Spring onion, chopped
1 stalk Celery, chopped
Lime slices

Sambal Cabe Rawit :
Boil 10 red chili padi, strain then grind with mortar and pestle or food processor. add salt to taste

How to make soto daging :
saute spices paste, lemon grass and lime leaves until fragrant.
add beef,1 liter water and salt to taste. let it boil
Serving :
In a bowl arrange vermicelli, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes then pour beef and stock.
sprinkle with spring onion, celery and fried shallot. add some lime juice
enjoy with sambal cabe rawit ( if you like spicy )
for 2 - 3 portions

Spicy Fried Potatoes




Again.. I'm posting about spicy food. This one is potatoes, in Indonesia we called Sambal goreng kentang. If you add beef liver so we called Sambal goreng hati. Usually as side dish for rice, yellow rice, and coconut rice. For spicy food lovers, must try it.. you will like it... more spicy it's better.. Suitable for lunch and dinner.
Very easy to make...








Ingredients:                                                                 How to cook:
250gram Potatoes, dice                                           1. Deep fry potatoes until golden brown, set aside
250gram  Beef liver, dice (I skip)                              2. Combine all chilis and garlic in food proccesor
5 Red bird eye chilli                                                 3. Heat the pan, put 1 tbsp of oil, fry shallot until
3 Long red chilli                                                           -light golden, add chili n garlic puree also galangal
1 Big red chilli, thinly slice for garnish                             -and lime leaves. saute until fragrant.
4 Shallots, thinly slice                                                                4. Add coconut milk, cook until boiling
2 Garlic                                                                    5. Add potatoes, salt to taste, mix it and garnish with                                                            
2 Lime leaves                                                             - slice chillis
1 Lemon grass, punch                                                     6. When the color changed, potatoes ready to serve                                                  
1 cup coconut milk
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

Spicy Red Chili Beef


I like spicy so much. I feel something is missing without chili. Eating spicy food makes my appetite increases. Chili also contain high vitamin C. But be careful don't eat to much chili, it's not good for your stomach.In Indonesia, Padang cuisine (West Sumatra) is famous for spiciness. Today I wanna share spicy red chili beef or Empal pedas, on this picture I use thin slices beef.
Ingredients:
500 gram beef, thinly slices
1 tea spoon of coriander powder
2 bay leaves
2 cm galangal
Salt to taste
2 tbsp Oil for frying

Seasoning :
8 red birds eye chili
5 red cayenne pepper
8 shallots
3 garlics
1 tsp tamarind
half tsp shrimp paste
half tsp sugar
Salt to taste
combine all then process in food proccesor or grind with mortar and pestle.

How to cook : 
Mix beef with coriander powder, salt and cup of water. Cook until the beef is tender and water finish.
Fry seasoning paste then put beef, galangal, and bay leaves then add one glass of water. Cook until the water finish and oil come out.
Serve with hot rice
